State Rep. Jennifer Wortz (R-Quincy) was appointed Thursday to the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, and the House Agriculture Committee. Wortz was selected as Vice Chair of the House Agriculture Committee and will serve in her first term as the second highest-ranking position on one of the most important policy committees in the legislature.
“The opportunity to correct changes in law on so many different policy areas really excites me,” Wortz said. “All of the focuses of the committees I have been assigned to matter to people in my district, whether that be infrastructure, agriculture, or even administrative rulemaking, which heavily impacts businesses in rural Michigan.”
Wortz will bring her experience as a former Conservation District manager to the Natural Resources and Tourism Committee, as well as her wide array of agricultural experience to the Agriculture Committee. After growing up on a small cash crop and beef farm in southern Hillsdale County, Wortz earned a degree in Agricultural Communications from Michigan State University. She currently owns a poultry production farm with her family and is a member of the Branch County Farm Bureau.
“Much of my life experience has been from the perspective of agriculture and natural resources. I have dealt with firsthand the impacts of policies that the committees I’m assigned to will consider.” Wortz said. “This is the kind of insight that makes the diverse backgrounds of a citizen legislature so valuable. I look forward to using my knowledge of the agricultural, natural resources, and infrastructure to help produce policy changes that protect rural Michigan families.”
