State Rep. Jason Woolford (R-Howell) today commented on Governor Whitmer’s overseas trip to Singapore while lawmakers in Michigan continue working to finalize the state budget.
“While the governor is overseas meeting with officials in Singapore, we’re here in Lansing working to finish a state budget,” Woolford said. “Michigan residents, taxpayers, and state employees deserve stability, not confusion about whether departments will be funded or whether a government shutdown is looming.”
Delays in passing the budget could lead to layoffs of state workers and disruption of essential services that families across Michigan rely on. Without a finalized budget, departments are left in limbo, and public employees may face missed paychecks which is something many households simply can’t afford.
“Our focus right now needs to be on protecting the jobs we already have and creating new ones by passing our road funding plan,” Woolford said. “The governor’s own transportation department says the House Republican roads plan will create more than 20,000 jobs. If the governor is serious about job creation, she should support our road funding plan which would create employment opportunities and improve the infrastructure businesses rely on.”
