Rep. Farrington appointed to House Families, Children and Seniors Committee
RELEASE|January 9, 2020

State Rep. Diana Farrington, of Utica, has been appointed by Speaker Lee Chatfield to serve as a member of the House Families, Children and Seniors Committee.

The committee is responsible for issues and legislation pertaining to the state’s population of children and seniors. Further, the preservation of the family, and streamlining the social service programs.

Rep. Farrington was instrumental in developing a plan to institute harsher penalties for criminals and abusers who target seniors last year. Under the proposal, assaulting a senior could result in up to 25 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines while embezzling could result in up to 20 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines, depending on the severity of the crime.

“I’m honored to serve on this committee,” Farrington said. “I’m passionate about standing up for those who cannot defend themselves. I look forward to what I will learn from this year’s committee hearings and testimonials from industry experts. Together we can make Michigan a better place to raise a family, to grow up and to retire.”

In addition to her new appointment, Farrington continues to serve as the chair of the Committee on Financial Services and as a member of the committees on Judiciary, Regulatory Reform and Tax Policy.

The Families, Children and Seniors Committee’s regularly scheduled meeting time is 9 a.m. Wednesday in Room 308 of the House Office Building.
