Democrats ignore concerned Detroiters, calling them ‘Circus Act’

LANSING– Speaker Pro Tem Rachelle Smit on Tuesday welcomed numerous Detroit voters and community leaders, including activists Ramon Jackson and Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, to testify. Citing their own long-running investigations, the Detroiters alleged systemic voter fraud in Detroit’s election systems.

“This week, we heard allegations of systemic voter fraud in Michigan elections, yet the Secretary of State and her departments say we should just continue to trust them,” said Smit, R-Martin. “Multiple individuals publicly testified that their voting records are incorrect, which could indicate that ballots are being improperly cast or attributed to their name. Benson is the one who won’t even turn over election training documents pursuant to a subpoena, and now she refuses to work with these hard-working people to correct the errors they say they found in the Qualified Voter File.”

“Instead of working with each other to get answers from election officials, Democrats call my committee – and the brave folks who testified on their lived experiences – nothing more than a circus act. These disenfranchised voters from Detroit deserve more and the Democrats should apologize.

“Detroit residents have filed a lawsuit against the city and the Michigan Department of State. Who will listen to them? I’m proud that our committee could give these individuals a voice so they could share their stories, as we work to fix our broken system.”
