Rep. Thompson issues statement on southeast Michigan storm damage, state of emergency
RELEASE|August 25, 2023

State Rep. Jamie Thompson, of Brownstown, today issued the following statement after severe storms moved through southeast Michigan on Thursday night and caused significant damage in communities she represents as part of the 28th House District. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Monroe and Wayne counties earlier today:

“I have been in frequent communication with local leaders, emergency management officials and the Michigan State Police to help keep impacted people and their families across our area informed. I have also been on the ground in communities visiting with people who have been impacted by the terrible storms and flooding that we have seen.

“I appreciate the governor’s action to declare a state of emergency for the area so we can boost response, provide additional resources and coordinate effectively for people in need. I have spoken with people in impacted communities who are dealing with significant damage to their homes, sewage backups, downed lines, and other dangerous situations. I hope every option is exhausted both right now and going forward – including calling in the Michigan National Guard – to help people in Monroe and Wayne counties.”
