State Rep. Donni Steele last week was appointed to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, as chairwoman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Local Transportation, vice-chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Licensing and Regulatory Reform and Department of Insurance and Financial Services, and as a member of the Joint Capitol Outlay and Public Health Appropriations subcommittees.
“Since being elected two years ago, it was clear how badly our infrastructure needed better attention. Now we have the opportunity to do so in a real way, that’s why we’re making fixing our state and local roads a top priority these next two years,” said Steele, R-Orion Township. “I’m honored to be chosen as the chairperson for the budget committee tasked with finding the funding for those solutions. We have a responsibility to ensure that every tax dollar is spent efficiently.”
Steele, a lifelong Oakland County resident and former Treasurer of Orion Township, said she was excited to continue on appropriations and address aspects of the budget that have been on pause for two years. She added that she wants to ensure taxpayers are getting the best possible return on their investment.
“We want to make sure everyone is able to travel good roads from their driveway to the highway,” Steele said.
The second-term lawmaker was first elected to the 54th House District in 2022. Her district includes the city of Bloomfield Hills, Orion Township, a portion of the city of Auburn Hills, and portions of Bloomfield Township and Oakland Township.
