ABOUT THE REPRESENTATIVE

District

Rep. Donni Steele was elected state representative in November 2022. She represents the 54th House District, which includes the city of Bloomfield Hills, Orion Township, a portion of the city of Auburn Hills, and portions of Bloomfield Township and Oakland Township.

Committees

Steele serves on the House Appropriations Committee, which handles the state budget. She also serves as the Republican vice chair on the Transportation Appropriations subcommittee and as a member on the Health and Human Services Appropriations subcommittee and the Capital Outlay Appropriations subcommittee.

Education

A lifelong Oakland County resident, Steele graduated from Lake Orion High School. She then studied at Western Michigan University and Hillsdale College, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration.

Professional

Steele has more than two decades of small-business experience and a decade of local government service. She worked as an associate broker at Partridge & Associates — a family independent real estate firm. Later, she became part owner of Coldwell Banker Shooltz Realty in Oxford, where she was an associate broker/manager. Prior to her election to the House, Steele served as Orion Township trustee, four years, and Orion Township treasurer for six years. As treasurer, she automated processes, centralized one receipting and billing system, and invested resources wisely to capitalize on taxpayer funds to reduce township expenses.

Personal

Steele and her husband, Phil, reside in Orion Township. The Steeles have been married more than three decades, and they have two sons, Max and Colton and dog, Chewy.

Community involvement

Desiring a safe bike path for her sons’ ride to school, Steele worked to help make community pathways safer. She joined the Orion Township Safety Path Advisory Committee in 2014, and served as chair and secretary of the board. Steele has also held leadership positions on the boards of the Polly Ann Trailway Management Council and the Paint Creek Trailways Commission. While serving in local government, she played an active role in the Oakland County chapter of the Michigan Townships Association and Oakland County Treasurers Association. Steele also was a board member for the Corridor Improvement Authority to help expand Brown Road and open economic development along the corridor of Brown Road between Orion and Auburn Hills.
