State Rep. Alicia St. Germaine, R-Harrison Township, on Wednesday supports the House plan to bring state funds to Michigan’s local roads. The House moved the Republican plan forward to fund roads without increasing taxes.
“Michigan has been promised better roads for years now, and yet, we are still dodging potholes left and right,” said St. Germaine. “If our cars have to be road worthy, shouldn’t our roads have to be car worthy?”
The plan will dedicate an additional $3.1 billion to fix crumbling infrastructure every year without raising taxes. By reallocating existing funds in the state budget and ensuring that all taxes paid at the pump are directed into roads, this plan will prioritize the much-needed improvements specifically for local roads. This ensures that communities are receiving funding that is needed to fix their neighborhood streets, and their everyday routes are repaired.
“One thing all Michiganders can agree on is that our roads need to be fixed,” said St. Germaine. “This plan provides a real solution to fix our roads and finally fulfill that long overdue promise to our residents. I am proud to support a plan that delivers real funding for local roads without adding burdens on our hardworking residents.”
