Rep. St. Germaine introduces plan to keep Michigan roads clear and safe
RELEASE|June 18, 2025

State Rep. Alicia St. Germaine (R-Harrison Township) introduced this week House Bill 4664, a proposal to preserve public safety and traffic flow by banning unauthorized individuals from blocking or interfering with roadways.

Under House Bill 4664, any unauthorized individual would be prohibited from intentionally obstructing or interfering with any traffic on public roads, highways, or sidewalks.

“Blocking roadways is not only dangerous, but it is also disruptive to public safety,” said St. Germaine. “This bill ensures that our streets remain open for emergency responders, families, and workers who rely on safe and clear roads every day.”

This bill comes in response to growing public concern over instances where individuals have impeded traffic during demonstrations, gatherings, or events posing safety risks to drivers, emergency vehicles, and pedestrians alike.

“We can protect both public safety and the right to free speech,” said St. Germaine. “This legislation draws that line by keeping our roads safe and functional while upholding lawful expression.”
