SB 274:  Would rename a portion of US-131 in Kalamazoo County Master Sergeant Gregory Kuhse Memorial Highway.

Why I voted YES: This highway naming allows us to express our gratitude and appreciation for Master Sergeant Gregory Kuhse for his bravery and service.

HB 4720:  Would prohibit new voting systems in the state from including any parts or equipment from foreign companies that would pose an unacceptable security risk.

Why I voted YES: This legislation would protect our elections from foreign influence or interference.

HB 4765:  Strengthens voter ID requirements in Michigan election law by requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.

Passage:  58-45 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: This is a commonsense reform to increase public confidence in elections and to decrease instances of fraudulent voting. Ensuring only eligible voters participate in our democratic process protects the fundamental right to vote.

HB 5688:  Would allow a delivery network company to deduct or exclude the sales tax paid to a marketplace seller in connection with a qualified sale.

Why I voted YES: The bill supports small retailers that may not be able to afford the technology that larger companies have been able to adopt to avoid this issue.

BILL PACKAGE HBs 5227-5229:  HB 5227 (Fairbairn) modifies prohibited conduct by real estate brokers. HB 5228 (Hoadley) modifies disclosures regarding real estate agency relationships. HB 5229 (Liberati) modifies the waiver of services in a limited service agreement.

Why I voted YES: This ensures the process of buying and selling real estate is transparent and that buyers and sellers are fully informed.

Why I voted YES: This ensures our geodetic modeling system is modern and up to date, which helps with the accuracy of private and public infrastructure projects.

BILL PACKAGE HBs 4696 & 4697:  Expands eligibility for assistance under the Guardianship Assistance Act.

Why I voted YES: Advocates may argue that relatives having to become a licensed foster parent to receive assistance is overly burdensome and discourages individuals from becoming a guardian or seeking assistance.

HB 4471:  Allows retirees receiving retirement benefits from the county to be employed by the county sheriff’s office without forfeiting retirement benefits.

Why I voted YES: The bill can help alleviate gaps in staffing, especially in smaller counties.

HB 4901:  Adjusts the licensing cycle for nurses and speech-language pathologists to three years, up from previously two years.
