On Wednesday, the House approved a budget that I could not support for several reasons, one of them being the lack of oversight over the spending of taxpayer dollars. House Republicans offered more than 200 amendments to address the many flaws in this budget process. We offered an amendment that specifically addresses the Redistricting Commission’s out of control spending. Sadly, this amendment and the many others we introduced were rejected by Democrats in majority.

“I’m disappointed the court-ordered mediation did not yield a positive result last week,” said Smit, R-Martin. “Secretary Benson continues to withhold the training materials she hands down to clerks. Chair DeBoyer and I were both clerks; we both agree that these documents need to be turned over to the Legislature so we can ensure our elections are being run effectively and in a non-partisan way.”
