State Rep. Ron Robinson (R–Utica) Tuesday voted in support of the House budget plan that prioritizes the needs of Michigan families by investing in what they care about most while respecting taxpayer dollars.
The approved House budget totals $56.6 billion and covers most state departments outside of education. Earlier this year, the House approved a $21.9 billion School Aid Fund budget that invests at record levels in Michigan classrooms. Together, the two budgets total $78.5 billion which is a 3.7% reduction from the current year’s budget. The House’s budget is also 6% smaller than the governor’s 2025-26 spending plan, and 7.2% smaller than the Senate’s budget proposal.
“Our budget dedicates $9.1 billion to Michigan’s roads, with $3.4 billion going directly to local communities so they can finally repair potholes and crumbling roads without raising taxes,” said Robinson. “On top of that, we’re making a $295 million investment in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs for our service members, including $26 million for Selfridge Air National Guard Base.”
The budget also includes important funding increases geared toward bolstering public safety. On the local level, Rep. Robinson secured $250k for the Utica Police Department to modernize their equipment, and on the state level, the House fully funds the public safety trust fund to the tune of $115 million.
“Whether it’s strengthening our schools, fixing our roads, protecting Michigan families, or securing the future of Selfridge, this budget reflects the priorities of our community and puts taxpayer dollars to work in ways that matter most,” said Robinson. “As negotiations with the Senate and governor continue, I will keep fighting to ensure these key investments remain in the final budget that reaches the governor’s desk.”
