State Rep. Ron Robinson this week celebrated the awarding of $3.7 million to veterans service organizations across Michigan through the Veterans Nonprofit Improvement Grant program, a first-of-its-kind initiative he championed as chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veterans Affairs.
Shortly after taking office, Robinson identified the need for additional support for American Legion posts, VFW halls, and other veterans organizations to repair and upgrade aging facilities. Working through the state budget process, he secured $4 million for the grant program, helping ensure veterans organizations would have access to resources for critical repairs and improvements.
This year, 22 organizations across Michigan received grants, including American Legion Post 351 in Utica, which received nearly $300,000 for facility improvements.
“These organizations are made up of veterans who continue to serve, even in retirement. From fundraisers to community clean-up events, these vets continue to pour into their communities,” said Robinson (R-Utica). “Every Michigander has one of these organizations in their community, and most are in dire need of updates. When I became chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs budget, I made it a priority to help them keep their lights on so they can continue the great work they do and to make sure our vets have a comfortable location to share space with their fellow servicemen. Seeing these grants go out is incredibly rewarding because it means we’re delivering real support to the men and women who have given and continue to give so much to our country.”
