Thursday morning, State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica City) proudly cast his vote in favor of reporting House Bills 4001 and 4002 out of the Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses. The bills preserve tip wages and restore reasonable paid leave and minimum wage requirements for small businesses, amending disastrous laws set to go into effect next month following a state Supreme Court decision last year.

“This committee heard from dozens of small business workers throughout the state, both employers and employees, and their message was clear: ‘we need these bills.’” Robinson said. “My decision to vote yes and move these bills to the house floor is one I am proud of. My first vote cast in a committee room was to save the livelihoods of countless hardworking people in Macomb County.”

The bills are now officially on their way to the House floor for consideration by the full chamber, well on their way to getting signed into law before the deadline next month. Robinson expressed his full confidence in his colleagues’ shared determination to carry this legislation across the finish line on time.

“This is the beginning that freshmen members dream of. I am proud to have helped the legislature reach a major milestone in addressing the needs of our small businesses,” Robinson said. “I look forward to seeing these bills pass on the floor with flying colors.”
