State Rep. David Martin (R-Davison) today announced that the state’s newly approved budget includes $4.4 million in funding to support critical road repairs in Davison. The investment will ensure that local streets impacted by upcoming water system improvements are properly reconstructed, rather than left with only patchwork repairs.

The City of Davison is moving forward with an $11.7 million water system improvement project through USDA-Rural Development that will replace aging and undersized water mains, upgrade the water treatment plant, and repair the water storage tower to ensure compliance with state drinking water standards. While federal funding will cover pavement repairs where the water mains are replaced, many of the impacted streets are already in poor condition and in need of full rehabilitation.

“This funding will allow Davison to complete these projects the right way — fixing the roads and the water system at the same time,” Martin said. “Without this support, the city would have been left with a patchwork of repairs that would only make things worse down the road. By working together, we’re delivering safe, reliable water service and smooth, safer streets for Davison residents.”

The $4.4 million in legislatively directed funding will cover improvements on 12 residential streets that would not otherwise qualify for federal road funding. This approach will reduce long-term maintenance costs, improve safety, and minimize disruptions to residents by combining water and road work into one coordinated project.

“This is a smart use of taxpayer dollars that will save money in the long run while improving quality of life for the people of Davison,” Martin said.

Martin noted that, in addition to this local project, the Legislature also approved nearly $2 billion in additional statewide funding for local roads in the new budget. He said this record investment will help communities throughout Michigan make long-overdue improvements in the years ahead.
