Budget includes massive funding increase, statewide scholarships to draw in students
State Rep. Greg Markkanen on Wednesday highlighted significant investments for Michigan Technological University within the House Higher Education Budget. The $2.4 billion budget plan raises funding for Michigan Tech to $111.62 million, a $17.29 million increase. The budget proposal includes a $5,500 per year scholarship for all Michigan high school graduates if they choose to attend a Michigan public or private university.
“Michigan Tech is one of our nation’s leading research institutions. There is no better school equipped to educate our resident graduates and send them off into our statewide workforce,” said Markkanen, R-Hancock. “Our budget directly benefits colleges and universities like Michigan Tech by making school more affordable and encouraging kids to go directly from high school into our top-class institutions. We’re making higher education more affordable for students, boosting enrollment in colleges and universities, and creating a highly trained workforce of born and raised Michiganders.”
