State Rep. Tom Kuhn (R–Troy) is proud to announce the successful inclusion of $300,000 in the finalized Michigan state budget to support a public safety and leadership education initiative for Hindu and Jain houses of worship across the state. The funding, championed by Kuhn, will go to the Hindu Community Relations Council of Michigan, based in Troy.

“This initiative is about protecting the rights and safety of Michigan residents as they gather in worship and service,” said Kuhn. “With over 40 temples across the state serving tens of thousands of worshippers, it’s vital that we support faith communities with the tools and training they need to stay safe, prepared, and connected to local law enforcement. I’m honored to have led this proposal and to support the Hindu and Jain communities in Troy, Sterling Heights, and across Michigan.”

The $300,000 allocation will fund a statewide program focused on public safety, emergency preparedness, and leadership development for religious leaders and volunteers. The goal is to ensure that temples and religious organizations are well-equipped to:

  • Enhance security measures and response plans
  • Improve collaboration with law enforcement and emergency personnel
  • Offer leadership training to strengthen internal governance and community outreach

The Hindu Community Relations Council of Michigan will coordinate the statewide rollout of the program, engaging temples and religious centers to assess needs, and deliver training and resources.
