State Rep. Jaime Greene this evening issued a response to the governor’s State of the State address, emphasizing the successes of Michigan House Republicans over the past year.

“The governor is right to focus on affordability; it’s just unfortunate that she’s taking credit for Republican policies,” said Greene (R-Richmond). “House Republicans created the framework for property tax relief that she’s now touting as her own. I’m glad that we can work together to help Michigan families that are financially struggling, but we need the governor to have a coherent vision for our future. Tax relief combined with tax hikes will not save our state’s economy. We need to be vigilantly focused on cutting out waste, fraud, and abuse in state spending.”

Greene continued by highlighting the steps Michigan House Republicans will take to deliver meaningful financial relief to Michiganders.

“While the Democrats applaud millions of dollars in corporate handouts, we’re going to put the focus back on small business owners and working-class people,” Greene said. “We’re reminding local businesses that they’re still the backbone of our state. When we as legislators take a firm stand in support of our entrepreneurs, we’re giving families a reason to stay in the state of Michigan. If we want our state to be a destination for new development, we need to give Michiganders the opportunities they need to truly thrive.”
