Woodside Bible Church Pastor Benjamin Wheatley traveled to Lansing this Wednesday to lead the Michigan House of Representatives in an uplifting prayer of praise and supplication. Pastor Wheatley, accompanied by his family his wife Devon, and their children Asher, Adaline, and Benjamin, traveled from the Village of Almont to attend the Wednesday session as a guest of State Representative Jaime Greene (R-Richmond), who also attends Woodside Bible Church.

Pastor Wheatley serves as the worship director at Woodside Bible Church, sharing his extraordinary musical talents in leading worship, often alongside Greene.

“It was truly a privilege and a joy to have Pastor Wheatley and his lovely family with us today, and to hear his heartfelt invocation to open our legislative session,” Greene said. “He is not only a gifted spiritual leader but also a dear friend whose dedication and musical gifts inspire our community. I am deeply grateful they made the trip to Lansing to bless us with their presence.”

Opening legislative sessions with prayer is a cherished tradition in America, dating back to the first meeting of the Continental Congress. The Michigan House invites members and their special guests, often local ministers, to offer a prayer at the start of each session.

“The tradition of beginning each session day with prayer is one of the most meaningful and uplifting practices we maintain,” Greene continued. “It reminds us daily of the importance of honoring God in all our decisions and acknowledges that our authority as legislators is a sacred trust. I am delighted Pastor Wheatley could lead us today in continuing this honorable and reverent tradition.”
