Rep. DeSana responds to Michigan’s revenue forecast

Contact: James DeSana

State Rep. James DeSana (R–Carleton) today issued a statement following the May Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC), which revealed a decline in projected state revenue.

CREC, held twice annually in January and May, provides lawmakers with updated economic and revenue projections that shape Michigan’s state budget. The January forecast forms the basis of the governor’s executive budget, while the May forecast helps guide final legislative budget decisions.

“With revenue projections coming in lower than expected, it’s more important than ever to budget with caution and common sense,” said DeSana. “We can’t afford to spend based on wishful thinking. Michigan deserves a budget that protects core services and avoids more burdens on working families.

“It’s irresponsible that the Senate has already proposed budgets without knowing how much we can afford. That’s reckless spending. Our responsibility is to budget based on facts, not assumptions. We need to ensure that we stay within our means to protect the wallets of Michigan taxpayers.”
