Rep. DeSana calls for accountability, not higher taxes

State Rep James DeSana (R-Carleton) today issued the following statement in response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s presentation of her proposed 2026 state budget:

“Michigan families are already feeling the strain of higher costs, and raising taxes should not be on the table. Too much waste, fraud, and abuse in state government has gone unchecked, and taxpayers should not be asked to make up the difference. We as Legislators should not ask for another dollar from the taxpayers. In fact, we should be returning their tax dollars in the form of property tax cuts.

“The state does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. Rather than increasing the burden on hardworking families and small businesses, the state needs to eliminate waste, focus on core priorities, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly.”
