Wednesday, February 4th, 2026:

I voted YES on HB 4445 (Rep. Wortz) would allow people to bait deer during open hunting seasons and reduce restrictions on baiting and feeding deer. EXPLANATION: The Natural Resources Commission’s (NRC) ban on feeding deer has served as a detriment to hunters. People should be free to bait and feed deer during open hunting seasons without worry of government interference.

PASSED: 66-38

I voted YES on HB 5288 (Rep. Posthumus) would prohibit the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) from providing a grant, loan, or other economic assistance to a person on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) entity list; the MSF must amend all existing written agreements to reflect this. EXPLANATION: Corporate welfare is already an outrageous practice, but handing out taxpayer money to CCP entities who use Uyghur slave labor is especially egregious. The Legislature must ensure that CCP-aligned entities, fueled by forced Uyghur labor, do not receive taxpayer-funded incentives.

PASSED: 104-0

I voted NO on HB 5455 (Rep. Linting) would reenter Michigan into Interstate Medical Licensure Compact after Michigan’s participation sunset in March. EXPLANATION: The sunset should expire so Michigan can re-evaluate its medical licensing practices. License reciprocity with other states is preferable to joining an interstate compact with regulatory power and fees.

PASSED: 102-2

I voted YES on HB 4897&98, 4907 (Reps. Martin, Bollin, and Prestin) would create five boiler installer licenses and set requirements for each type of license. Would create five boiler repair licenses and set requirements for each type of license. Would prevent rules that limit certain classes of installers and repairers from completing maintenance and testing and repeals certain administrative rules.      EXPLANATION: Currently, there are 7 classifications for boiler installation licenses and 6 classifications for boiler repair licenses. Consolidating existing classifications to 5 licenses for both boiler installation and repair licenses streamlines the process, thereby reducing government’s overall regulatory burden in this industry. It is productive to place restraints on LARA to prevent continued overreach in this field.

PASSED: 56-48, PASSED: 56-48, PASSED: 56-48

Thursday, February 5th, 2026:

I voted YES on HB 4855 (Rep. Prestin) would allow bow hunters to carry a sidearm for personal protection from aggressive wildlife. EXPLANATION: People should not need permission from the government to exercise their Second Amendment protected right. It is ridiculous that the state restricted this right for bow hunters. Shall not be infringed still applies even while a person is bow hunting.

PASSED: 90-13

I voted YES on HB 5197 (Rep. Smit) would close an existing loophole by prohibiting foreign funding of ballot proposals and initiatives EXPLANATION: Pursuant to federal law, foreign nationals cannot donate to political candidates or Super PACs. However, ballot measures do not currently have this protection. Swiss billionaire and leftist ideologue Hansjorg Wyss has exploited this loophole to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars donated to leftist dark money organizations. Closing this international influence loophole is paramount to protecting free and fair elections.

PASSED: 97-6

I voted YES on HB 5198 (Rep. Bruck) Would amend Michigan election law to require an individual, company, or organization (other than a government entity) providing funds, in-kind goods, or services for election administration to file a sworn certification with the Secretary of State related to whether they receive foreign funding. EXPLANATION: Election administration is highly sensitive, and it is crucial to implement transparency mechanisms to protect election integrity. An entity seeking to fund election administration should be subject to strict transparency requirements to mitigate the risk of foreign influence in our elections.

PASSED: 99-4
