State Rep. Steve Carra today released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s remarks regarding opposition to data center development across the United States. President Trump argued that communities should embrace data centers and warned that widespread opposition to their development could put the United States at a competitive disadvantage with China.

“Hyperscale data centers are an existential threat,” said Carra. “Given that they may cause the extermination of humanity if we are not careful, we need elected officials at the federal level to have difficult conversations regarding this matter with leaders around the world. It’s imperative that neither America nor other countries unwittingly wipe out mankind.”
