House car insurance website includes a how-to guide for drivers to receive savings

State Rep. Doug Wozniak today announced the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates – the legislative panel that led efforts to reform Michigan’s much-maligned no-fault car insurance system – restructured its website at www.ReduceMiRatesNow.com.

The website will serve as a user-friendly platform for drivers in Macomb County and across the state to familiarize themselves with the new law set to roll out July 1. Wozniak, of Shelby Township, cast his vote to approve the historic overhaul, which includes choices for drivers on the medical portion of insurance policies, measures to crack down on rampant fraud and abuse, guaranteed savings for every Michigan driver and more.

“We are less than two months away from the roll out of our state’s newly revamped no-fault car insurance system,” Wozniak said. “On July 1, much-deserved rate relief will be delivered to every Macomb County driver and motorists across Michigan. To capitalize on these savings and garner a better understanding of the new coverage options available, I encourage drivers to visit the ReduceMiRatesNow website. It’s a great resource that will help walk drivers through the multiple facets of the new law.”

ReduceMiRatesNow features all the available personal injury protection (PIP) coverage levels and a guide for each option drivers may utilize to familiarize themselves with the forms they will be expected to fill out in the coming weeks. The how-to guides detail the steps drivers will need to take to choose a coverage option that best meets their budget needs.

In addition to becoming familiar with the sample PIP and bodily injury forms, Wozniak recommends drivers start shopping around for the lowest rates possible as insurance providers make them available. Drivers are also encouraged to consult with their insurance agents, who can help determine coverage options.

“While many strides have been taken to make much-needed improvements to Michigan’s no-fault system, there’s still more work to do,” Wozniak said. “I have introduced separate legislation as part of a broader solution to better protect car accident victims by making the unlimited PIP coverage option more affordable and attractive through higher deductible options. I also authored the blue print for an independent medical exam board that would use a random selection process to appoint doctors to conduct examinations of patients who have suffered injuries in a car accident. The purpose behind the board would be to ensure the independent medical examination process is truly independent, transparent and fair, adding much-needed consumer protection for accident victims. We have a unique no-fault system in place, and it couldn’t be more important Michigan drivers have dependable, life-saving coverage at a fair and affordable price.”
