Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield this week addresses the first meeting of the Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration, a group comprised of 21 members from the executive, judicial and legislative branches, as well as community leaders across the state. The panel is focusing on how the state’s jail population has tripled in the last 35 years, despite crime being at a 50-year low.
