Senate Dems block snow day solution, leave local schools out in the cold
RELEASE|May 1, 2019

Rep. Michele Hoitenga, of Manton, released the following statement after learning that Senate Democrats would not grant immediate support for a snow day measure that aimed to ensure school districts were not penalized financially for closures during a governor-declared state of emergency:

“Senate Democrats chose to side with unions today rather than do what’s best for our kids.

“Without implementing this fix immediately, students and teachers will be forced to attend school into July this year, costing them extra money, delaying school construction projects scheduled for the summer and delaying summer plans for families.

“School districts in my communities are depending on this solution. I’m incredibly disappointed that party politics and procedural maneuvers have gotten in the way of this measure.”
