Pettalia welcomes House committee chair for July 25 town hall
Area residents can provide feedback and input on Michigan’s natural resources management policies at a Thursday, July 25 town hall meeting in Alpena with state Reps. Peter Pettalia and Andrea LaFontaine, chair of the House Natural Resources Committee.
The 6 p.m. meeting is at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, 500 W. Fletcher in Alpena.
“This town hall is an excellent opportunity for the people of Northeast Michigan to be involved in our government’s policy process,” said Pettalia, R-Presque Isle. “I thank Rep. LaFontaine for coming to our area to listen to local residents’ concerns and ideas.”
One of the topics of interest is the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, which provides state funds from mineral development revenue for land acquisition and development projects for recreational opportunities or environmental protection.
The 30-year-old trust fund was in the spotlight earlier this year when the Legislature discussed an emergency harbor dredging program and it was determined money in the MNRTF constitutionally could only be used for development and acquisition, not maintenance projects.
