Rep. Wozniak calls for governor to go back to the drawing board on budget plan

State Rep. Douglas Wozniak, of Shelby Township, issued the following statement after Gov. Whitmer announced her state budget proposal:

“We should be considering options that don’t put an additional burden on state taxpayers. This proposal, if fully implemented, would ask them to pay an additional 45 cents per gallon at the pump. That would equate to the highest gas tax of any state in the country and certainly not move our state in the right direction.

“We’ve been experiencing solid economic growth in Michigan. Record funding has been put into roads and K-12 education to make a sizeable investment into our future. I don’t want to see those efforts wasted with tax-and-spend measures that hurt residents or drive them completely out of the state. There are a lot of eye-popping numbers in this proposal, which is over $3 billion more than the previous signed budget, but to properly put the whole thing into words – this is not the right course of action for the state.”
