Measure gives parents more opportunities to choose health care coverage

State Rep. Hank Vaupel’s plan that gives parents more opportunities to choose affordable health care coverage for their children has been signed into law.

“Giving parents the accessibility to provide affordable health care coverage ensures their children’s health care needs are met,” said Vaupel, of Fowlerville. “Health care coverage is important for growing children and maintaining a safe and healthy lifestyle will be beneficial to children of all ages.”

Vaupel’s plan allows parents involved in certain court proceedings to meet legal requirements by having their children enrolled in affordable public health care coverage programs. Current Michigan law requires parents involved in child custody or divorce cases to provide their children with health care coverage through employment or private coverage.

House Bills 4304-05 are now Public Acts 26 and 27 of 2019.
