State Rep. Brad Slagh of Zeeland this week participated in a roundtable discussion with several colleagues coordinating ideas to address the beach erosion disaster along Lake Michigan’s shoreline, which was triggered by record high water levels.

“It’s important we look at the next steps to address this crisis, which has caused a lot of damage for many property owners and communities this past year,” Slagh said. “People need to know we understand and share in their frustration and we are working with each other diligently to find solutions.”

Slagh is working to ensure that impacted properties have the tools required to address the damage.

The legislators are waiting for the governor’s response after sending a letter with the request for an emergency declaration at the end of 2019. Along with making the permitting process easier, Slagh also supports a plan urging the governor to call on Canada to stop redirecting water into the Great Lakes.
