Rep. LaFave announces school safety grant

State Rep. Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain, announced today that four school districts in the South Central Upper Peninsula will be receiving money from the 2019 Competitive School Safety Grant Program. Bark River-Harris School District will receive over $62,000. Gladstone Area Schools will receive over $109,000. Escanaba Area Public Schools will receive over $110,000 and Tri-Township School will receive over $34,000.

“Protecting our students and keeping our schools safe has been a top priority since I took office two years ago,” LaFave said.  “Students, teachers and faculty should feel safe when they go into our schools every day. I cannot thank our local law enforcement and State Police enough for all that they do to protect our communities.”

Over 130 public school districts, 66 non-public schools, 20 public charter schools and nine intermediate school districts will receive $25 million in grants from the 2019 Competitive School Safety Grant Program. The money will be used to purchase technology and equipment that will improve safety and security of students, staff and school buildings.
