Resolution designates November as Family Caregivers Month
State Rep. Bronna Kahle of Adrian presented resolutions thanking family caregivers during Family Caregivers Month. Kahle visited Daybreak Adult Day Services in Adrian and met with Director Tammy Jewell and local families to recognize the dedicated residents who ensure the health and well-being of beloved family members.
“Taking care of loved ones is the backbone of the long-term care system in our state and country,” Kahle said. “It’s the core of what sustains senior citizens that need help and adults with disabilities. Caregivers often make major sacrifices to help loved ones remain at home. We need to encourage these heroes to seek assistance from support systems, take time for respite and get proper nutrition to maintain the strength, energy, stamina and positive attitude the role demands and requires.”
Rep. Kahle introduced House Resolution 193 declaring November 2017 as Family Caregivers Month in Michigan. The resolution recognizes the more than one million residents throughout Michigan who are caregivers for their loved ones.
Since 1997, Family Caregivers Month has been observed nationally during the month of November to honor caregivers. The theme for National Family Caregivers Month is “Caregiving Around the Clock.”
The resolution was adopted with overwhelming bipartisan support.
