Rep. Hernandez remains ‘hopeful’ ahead of governor’s budget proposal
RELEASE|February 5, 2020

Rep. Shane Hernandez – chair of the Michigan House Appropriations Committee – issued the following statement today on Gov. Whitmer’s upcoming budget presentation:

“I’m hopeful that the governor is going to present a realistic balanced budget to the Legislature later this week,” Hernandez said. “I look forward to working with the governor’s office to find ways to improve our roads, educate our children, and protect our Great Lakes without raising taxes — but this proposal should be fiscally responsible and based on existing revenues, not tax increase proposals that never get introduced as legislation.

“If road conditions are truly a priority for this governor, then I expect she will want to finally come to the table and find real ways to fix Michigan roads using existing state revenue,” Hernandez continued. “Michigan taxpayers have been very clear – they want us to fix Michigan’s roads without raising taxes, or burdening our children with mountains of debt.”
