State Rep. Roger Hauck, of Union Township, today issued the following statement after Midland County’s first coronavirus case was discovered:
“Our local health care officials are working round the clock to contain the virus and protect Midland County families. We can all do our part to help prevent further spread by using effective preventive measures like frequent hand washing with soap, cleaning high-traffic surfaces and staying home as much as possible, especially if feeling sick.
“I recently supported a total of $150 million in state funding to combat coronavirus in Michigan. The plan will provide $50 million for emergent needs like virus monitoring and testing, $50 million to expand capacity for critical health care providers, and $50 million in additional reserves. Within the plan are important accountability measures to ensure money is spent in the best interests of the people of Michigan.
“Our state Department of Health and Human Services, local health care providers and public health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are working together to monitor this patient. My heart goes out to this individual and their family. I know they are receiving the best possible care during this overwhelming time.”
“I encourage people to seek accurate and timely information about this public health situation as details are changing daily. For questions about coronavirus, Michigan residents can call 1-888-535-6136, email [email protected] or visit www.michigan.gov/coronavirus. The hotline is open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.”
