State Rep. Beth Griffin this week said while it’s good Gov. Gretchen Whitmer included funding in her proposed budget to address soil erosion – which has been harming families due to severe damage caused by record high water levels – more funding and work are needed.

“I’m happy to see Governor Whitmer take a step in the right direction for the shoreline communities that have been impacted by erosion,” Griffin said. “But we are dealing with record setting water levels along Lake Michigan which has already caused thousands of dollars in damage. Local residents have reached out expressing their concerns and fear that what the governor has proposed isn’t going to do enough.”

A couple weeks ago, Griffin and her colleagues participated in a roundtable discussion, coordinating ideas to support families affected by the high water levels.

“My colleagues and I are committed to looking at all of the options to assist our families and business owners,” Griffin said. “While there are aspects of this situation that only Mother Nature can control, we are considering all options to help our communities and focusing on the next steps. I hope Gov. Whitmer recognizes the impact this has had on so many lives.”
