State Rep. Phil Green has introduced a plan to undo one of Governor Whitmer’s many line-item vetoes, restoring funding to rural access hospitals.
Green, of Millington, said there’s a critical need for rural access hospitals throughout Michigan and the governor’s veto was a “serious oversight.”
“I believe the strength of communities is directly related to the quality of health care it has available to it,” Green said. “I’ve been married to a nurse for 20 years, so I’ve learned a lot about the needs our state has for improved health care access.”
Green’s measure is part of a bipartisan plan to restore funding to 24 programs vetoed by the governor on Oct. 1.
Some of the other proposals would restore funding for:
- Critical access hospitals
- Rural access hospitals
- Newborn health care
- Autism resources
- Summer school reading programs
- Public charter school students
- Michigan tuition grants
- Career technical education equipment
- School safety grants
- County veteran services
- Sheriff road patrols
The plan was referred to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration.
