President Trump pledges $300 million for Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

State Rep. Triston Cole today praised President Donald Trump’s support of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

“This critical project will protect our precious Great Lakes from invasive species, clean up toxic contaminants and help restore natural habitats,” said Cole, of Mancelona. “The Great Lakes are our state’s namesake, and we are very proud of our natural heritage. I applaud the president’s promise to join us in protecting these incomparable natural resources for generations to come.”

Trump pledged to fully fund the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative at $300 million in the federal Fiscal Year 2020 budget at a rally in Grand Rapids on Thursday.

“Our Great Lakes are not only an irreplaceable source of clean freshwater, they are also an important part of our state’s overall economy,” Cole said. “Our state hosts more than five million visitors every year, who spend $2.1 billion in communities and at local businesses across the state. We absolutely need to be good stewards of our water for the long term.”

Cole also applauded the efforts of U.S. Congressman Jack Bergman and the rest of the Michigan Congressional delegation for seeking full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

“Great things come about for Michigan families when we are able to reach across the aisle and work together,” Cole said.
