State Rep. Ryan Berman, of Commerce Township, today issued a statement about newly confirmed cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19, within Oakland County:
“I am actively engaging with state experts, local officials and first responders to monitor this situation and help mitigate coronavirus spread in Oakland County and throughout southeast Michigan. The Michigan House recently approved a total of $25 million to stay in front of and address the challenges that come with this evolving event. The funding will assist in virus monitoring, testing, infection control and continuation of critical state government functions.
“I am committed to working with state experts to stay on top of this important issue. It will allow me to help report back to local residents as soon as possible on any potential concerns for our communities, or provide other pertinent information people need and deserve.
“There are important steps one can take to help protect themselves and their families. They seem basic in nature, but can go a long way. Keep your hands clean by washing and sanitizing often, and avoid touching any part of your face. According to recent testimonials from national scientific experts, avoiding large gatherings where people are tightly packed in amongst one another also lowers the risk for transmission.
“I will be sure to keep on top of any developments as we go forward to help protect communities in Oakland County.”
