State Rep. Tom Barrett made the following statement after voting against House Bill 4110, which called for the transfer of $250.3 million from the School Aid Fund to pay down a deficit on the General Fund:
“I committed to the people in my district that I would not support shifting money out of the K-12 School Aid Fund to benefit higher education. My vote today keeps that commitment,” said Rep. Barrett, R-Potterville. “I believe that the School Aid Fund is designed to fund K-12 education.”
The House on Wednesday passed the bill by a 62-48 margin.
