Rep. Alexander selected to lead House Agriculture Committee
RELEASE|January 17, 2019

State Rep. Julie Alexander has been named chair of the influential House Agriculture Committee, Speaker Lee Chatfield announced today.

The committee is tasked with deliberating on all policy related to the agricultural industry in Michigan.

“Michigan is home to the second most diverse agricultural economy in the country, offering more than 300 different commodities, and I am passionate about telling the story behind this thriving economy and educating the public on what it means to be grown in Michigan,” Alexander said. “I look forward to in-depth dialogue on this committee and putting forward ideas to enhance Michigan’s extensive agricultural economy.”

Alexander and her husband currently operate a third-generation farm in Hanover growing around 1,500 acres of corn, soybean and hay crops. The family also has 40 years of experience with dairy farming.

“I know first-hand the challenges Michigan’s farmers face today and I look forward to working together to protect our bright future,” Alexander said. “Our food and agriculture industry contributes more than $100 billion to our state’s economy each year. The House Agriculture Committee will be a venue for many open, bipartisan conversations on how we can support our Michigan-grown agriculture.”

Alexander will also serve on the House Transportation, Health, and Energy committees.
