Rep. Afendoulis: Only state, U.S. flags should fly above government buildings
RELEASE|July 25, 2019

State Rep. Lynn Afendoulis has introduced a plan to ensure only government flags can fly outside state buildings in Michigan.

Afendoulis, of Grand Rapids Township, said it is inappropriate to display flags supporting social movements on property owned by state government.

“We shouldn’t be playing identity politics with the people’s property,” Afendoulis said. “It isn’t right.”

The bill, introduced by Afendoulis today, would prevent all flags other than the state flag, governor’s flag or U.S. flag from being displayed at state government buildings in Michigan.
House Bill 4820 has been referred to the House Government Operations Committee for consideration.
