Rep. Afendoulis: Governor must move quickly to adopt region-based response to COVID-19, allowing more of Michigan to get back to work
RELEASE|April 20, 2020

Rep. Lynn Afendoulis of Grand Rapids Township today issued a statement on the House Republican strategy that would allow a region-by-region, rolling restart of Michigan’s economy based on risk and prevalence of COVID-19 within particular areas:

“This region-based plan would allow many parts of Michigan to take a huge, important step toward normalcy sooner rather than later. The governor can’t act soon enough on these recommendations, allowing people with little risk of spreading coronavirus to get back to work while maintaining all the safety precautions where they’re necessary.

“I am hopeful the governor is becoming more receptive to focusing on which activities are safe vs. unsafe instead of essential vs. non-essential, and to looking at COVID-19 by region and category instead of the current blanket response that is more rigid than most other states and is crippling our economy. I hope that she sees the wisdom and logic of the approach in this plan and adopts it. She can’t move quickly enough.”
