Rep. Afendoulis appointed chair of House Tax Policy Committee
RELEASE|January 16, 2019

State Rep. Lynn Afendoulis today was appointed chair of the Michigan House Tax Policy Committee, an important position influencing the cost of living for residents, the cost of doing business for job providers and the quality of public services.

Committee assignments for the House’s 2019-20 legislative term were announced by Speaker Lee Chatfield.

“Tax policy – when it’s done right – strengthens our economy to make Michigan an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Afendoulis, of Grand Rapids Township. “Good policies help hard-working taxpayers keep more of what they earn and help businesses create jobs while continuing to wisely invest in schools, roads and other essential public services. I am honored to receive this appointment, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for Michigan with a data-driven approach to tax policy.”

Afendoulis received several other committee assignments for the 2019-20 session. She will serve as a member of the Health Policy; Transportation; and Military, Veterans and Homeland Security committees.

In addition, Afendoulis will serve on the newly announced House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates. The temporary committee is specifically tasked with crafting reforms to the state’s no-fault insurance system, which forces Michigan drivers to pay the highest car insurance rates in the nation.

“Every one of these committee assignments provides a unique opportunity to serve the Grand Rapids region, Kent County and all of Michigan,” said Afendoulis, who represents the people of the City of East Grand Rapids and the townships of Grand Rapids, Plainfield, Cannon, Courtland, Nelson, Oakfield and Spencer.
