Budget plan signed into law – includes Allor bill
RELEASE|December 23, 2019

Rep. Sue Allor last week announced the Legislature’s plan to restore Governor Whitmer’s funding-cuts to several important programs has been signed into law.

“Governor Whitmer held the budget hostage putting many Michiganders in a difficult position; it seemed like no one was safe. Michiganders, including seniors, students, veterans, local government, and even those with autism, were thrown to the side in her effort to get an extreme 45 cent gas tax hike,” Allor said. “This supplemental was a step in the right direction, but we still have some work to do before the damage she caused is repaired. Hopefully, we can finally move forward and make sure people’s needs are met in Northeast Michigan and throughout the entire state.”

Allor’s sponsored measure will restore $15 million in assistance to local communities combatting PFAS contamination at municipal airports. Funding will also be restored for rural hospitals and health care programs, local law enforcement, and assistance for children with autism.

The measure also restores more than $27 million for the payment in lieu of taxes (PILT) program, which local units of government count on as part of their annual operational costs, as well as $4 million to help connect veterans with benefits through the County Veteran Service Fund.

“This has been a long process,” Allor said. “Although it didn’t happen until the 11th hour, I’m glad that the Governor signed the supplemental and restored funding for some of the vital services the people of Michigan depend on.”
