State Rep. Brad Paquette applauded Wednesday’s ground breaking of Indeck Energy Center in Niles, a day twenty years in the making. Once finished, the plant will serve hundreds of thousands of residents throughout the region.

“This is tremendous and positive development for Niles and for Southwest Michigan,” Rep. Paquette said. “It will result in a substantial economic benefit for Niles and make Southwest Michigan an example for the development of safe, reliable, and affordable power.”

Indeck Energy Center will be a cogeneration natural gas plant, making it one of the most environmentally responsible natural gas plants in the world. The construction project alone is estimated to cost around $1 billion and will take roughly 500 skilled trade construction workers nearly three years to build. Upon completion, over 20 full time employees will operate the plant. It is also estimated to double the tax base for the city of Niles.
