Rep. Markkanen announces Community Development grant for Ironwood
RELEASE|February 25, 2020

State Rep. Greg Markkanen of Hancock announced today the city of Ironwood will receive over $1.4 million for a downtown community activity space. The city will be making a minimum anticipated contribution of over $200,000 for the project.

“I applaud the city of Ironwood for seeking out grant opportunities like this,” Markkanen said.  “This project will be an excellent improvement to our downtown and will undoubtedly be a destination for many in the area.”

The project will transform a vacant lot in downtown Ironwood into an activity space. A seasonal ice rink, location for food trucks, and amphitheater are planned to be included in the project. The money comes from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and is expected to be used for public facilities improvements.
