State Rep. Joe Bellino of Monroe was joined by his wife and local business owners at the state Capitol Wednesday to officially open the 100^th Michigan Legislature. Rep. Bellino was administered the oath of office by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Stephen Markman.

“I am urging the Natural Resources Commission to rescind new deer harvest reporting requirements, which I believe are unjust. These mandatory requirements include criminal penalties for those who fail to comply. I am sympathetic to the need for deer population monitoring, but the seven unelected members of the NRC simply do not have any right to enforce criminal penalties.

State Rep. Joe Bellino and Sen. Dale Zorn today announced the Port of Monroe, and the Arthur Lesow Community Center (ALCC) in Monroe will receive nearly $13 million in funding as part of the final budget proposal approved today by the Legislature.
