Rep. Bellino fights to restore funding in emergency budget for Michigan’s most vulnerable residents, youth
RELEASE|March 12, 2020

Measure passes House and Senate, heads to governor

On Tuesday, State Rep. Joe Bellino, of Monroe, voted in favor of a supplemental budget plan to restore funding to several critical state programs that would benefit some of Michigan’s most vulnerable residents.

The measures partially restore funding Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had previously vetoed, including more than $12 million in infrastructure grants. Rep. Bellino fought to secure funding for Holiday Camp in Monroe County.

“This non-profit, summer camp benefits and supports people with disabilities,” Bellino said. “Holiday Camp is planning on doing several facility upgrades and repairs to its existing facilities. Every child should have the privilege of experiencing Michigan’s incredible outdoors and natural resources.

Bellino, who is an advocate for vulnerable residents, also voted to restore funding to provide shelter services to run away and homeless youth.

State Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, also voted in favor of restoring funding for Holiday Camp.

“This supplemental funding will help Michigan meet pressing challenges and restore more of the funding for important services vetoed by the governor last fall,” Sen. Zorn said. “Everyone in Michigan should have access to our great outdoors, and that is what restoring this support for the Holiday Camp in Monroe County will provide.”

Senate Bill 151 was approved by the House and Senate and now heads to the governor for approval.
