State Rep. Allor releases statement regarding bipartisan plan to address education as COVID-19 outbreak continues
RELEASE|April 2, 2020

State Rep. Sue Allor, of Wolverine, today issued the following statement in response to the Legislature reaching a bipartisan agreement with the governor regarding education response in the wake of school closures brought on by coronavirus:

“The bipartisan agreement reached today is truly the right answer for our kids, educators, and school workers. While none of us have experienced anything like this in our lifetimes, I am confident our friends, family members, and neighbors will get through this hard time together.

“Our bipartisan plan closes all public and private school buildings for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year unless they are later deemed safe. It also forgives 15 days of instruction beyond the nine snow days currently allowed under state law. School districts are required to use resources from days that have been waived to make sure hourly and contracted employees are fully compensated.

“I appreciate all of the parents in our community who are taking on the lead role of teacher during this difficult time. I also want to thank the teachers who are finding creative ways to teach their students.

“Please know I am here for you and continue to fight for you every day. I know the past few weeks have been hard on everyone, but if we remain calm and vigilant, we will get through this. I want to thank each and every one of you for pushing forward. Keep going.”

Rep. Allor and her staff are working remotely, so they can continue to serve residents during the COVID-19 outbreak. People with questions or concerns can reach her office by calling (517) 373-0833 or emailing [email protected].
