Tax Cut
Small Businesses Win With Wendzel
RELEASE|March 23, 2023

Last week, I proudly voted in favor of a package of tax cuts that will provide immediate and lasting relief for job creators across Michigan. These tax cuts aim to alleviate unnecessary burdensome government regulations that have been holding back small businesses for far too long.

Small businesses aren’t faceless big corporations, they’re our friends and neighbors. They’re the heart and soul of our economy, and they deserve to operate without unnecessary restrictions that make it more expensive for them and, ultimately, for us – the consumers.

The tax cuts that Republicans passed will clarify Michigan law and exempt delivery and installation services from sales and use taxes. We have also clarified that sales and use taxes do not apply to industrial processing equipment used on aggregate materials, such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, and recycled asphalt. Taken together, these measures will provide much-needed relief to small businesses that have been struggling for the past two years and lower the cost of infrastructure projects.

Some additional good news is that the House of Representatives has taken desperately needed steps to increase oversight and accountability when it comes to the governor’s corporate handouts. Even legislative Democrats finally agreed with the need for greater transparency from the governor’s office, and our legislation passed with overwhelming support.

The measures we passed will go a long way towards supporting small businesses, promoting economic growth in Michigan, and ensuring all voices are heard as Michigan tries to attract businesses to locate here. This past week was a rare instance this term where Democrats listened to Republicans, and as a result, good policy was passed.  I’m hopeful this is a good sign of things to come.
